"A horse has no future. It cannot greet the sun and say today will be better. It can only reflect upon days of past experiences. It is our job to create a positive past."

Here at Waaler Farm, we can offer stabling for 21 horses, in large, bright, airy boxes. We have two riding halls. One little one insulated, and with a footing of Otto mats, and Terra-Tex filt, and one 20x40meter hall with traditional sand and shavings footing. Our fantastic out door arena is surrounded by trees, planted by the dressage markers, and outside of this, the beautiful stone wall is decorated with apple and cherry trees. The footing is sand with Terra-Tex filt, on top of a packed sole of drained decomposed granite. The automatic watering system ensures perfect conditions at all times (except winter). Lots of sand paddocks, and pastures, surround the halls and arenas, and make for a lovely atmosphere for the horses. An indoors oval walker, manufactured by the Kraft Brothers in Germany, is built inside the stables.(click för video).Oval walkers are the future, judging from the interest from thoroughbred yards all over the world. Our massage machine Equissage is used every day in the massage studio, and insures that old as young, our horses work under optimal conditions as much of the time as possible. Increased circulation helps prevent injuries, as well making the horses work and develop in a positive and relaxed way.

There is a fantastic old stone barn, unique to this part of the country, but rare as it has stones all the way up to the roof on the short sides, that we still haven’t found a future use for. There is also a wood barn for hay and straw, as well as a workshop for Per the handy man. We live in a beautiful old house that was once one of the main farms in the area. From our bed room we can follow all the activities on the farm through cameras posted inside and outside the barn, and have full control! The working students live in a lovely old house, which must have been the first house on the farm. With red bricks around dark wood beams, it sits idyllically behind our house. Our fantastic stone gate with galloping horses on top is made by our artist/carpenter Arvidas, who has left his mark on most of the place.

We, Helene and Per Waaler, have lived and worked together since we met in California, USA, in 1982. Helene has her education from Strömsholm, and was working as a beriter/instructor in Los Angeles. Per was working as a free lance instructor in the same area. Together we started Waaler-Farm. We married in 1984, and moved to Norway in 1986. Lise-Lotte was born shortly thereafter, and Per Niklas was born in 1989. Since we moved to Norway, and until we sold in dec.2006, we have been building, or creating our old place, Skauen Ridingcenter. When the time came for slowing down the pace a little, witch suddenly seemed upon us, Tararps byväg 135 in Asarum appeared on the marked. The thought of building a small place, and to have time for some of the important things in life, (not just horses!) was a reality.
